We were notified today that the White Bear Lake Police Department is suspending its SRO program in our secondary schools effective immediately. Although the SRO program will not be in effect, we will continue to partner with the WBLPD and other law enforcement agencies to maintain school safety.
Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) results were released this week. Overall, K-8 White Bear Lake Area Schools scores remain above statewide proficiency levels in reading, math and science
Schedules were recently released for our students. However, due to a glitch in the system, the schedules did not appear in the Synergy ParentVUE / StudentVUE app. The issue has been resolved now.

Find the essentials for starting the 2023-24 school year!
The district is hosting a district-wide Back to School Extravaganza event from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26 at WBLAHS - North Campus (5040 Bald Eagle Ave., WBL).
School and district leaders recently took part in a groundbreaking ceremony at Central Middle School to celebrate the start of construction on the Phase 1 additions happening at the school. When completed in late summer of 2025, the Central projects will include a new gym and fitness area, expanded kitchen and cafeteria, and the renovation of the current District Center to create additional classroom spaces.
As we prepare for the 2023-24 academic year, the following administrative changes will be in place starting July 1, 2023:

Current WBLAHS - South Campus Associate Principal Carrie Barth will serve a one-year assignment as WBLAHS - North Campus principal.

Dion Harriman and Joe Held will continue serving in associate principal roles.
WBLAS is excited to announce administrative changes that are taking place this summer and will be in effect for the start of the 2023-24 school year. Cynthia Mueller will serve as a full-time Principal on Special Assignment and Current WBLAHS - North Campus principal Ang Nelson will move into the principal role at Otter Lake Elementary.
Juneteenth (June 19) was recently signed into law as a State holiday. In keeping with the new law, all WBLAS buildings will be closed on June 19, 2023. There will be no classes or programs, school board meetings, activities, athletic camps, practices, competitions, or other school-associated events hosted by the district on this day.
The White Bear Lake Area School District is pleased to announce that Julian Stanke has been chosen as the future principal of Birch Lake Elementary, a position that opened when current principal Jonathan Luknic announced he would resign at the end of the current school year. Stanke will begin his role at Birch on July 1, 2023.
WBLAHS - North Campus Social Studies and AVID Teacher Mark Domschot was named the White Bear Lake Area Educators 2023 Teacher of the Year at a May 3 ceremony.
White Bear Lake Area Schools has been awarded a grant of $122,000 through the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety for the installation of stop arm cameras on all 36 school district buses.
The district’s most recent four-year graduation rate, released by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) this week, shows the district’s rate tops the state’s graduation rate of 83.6% by almost 5.5 percentage points, with 89.1% of 2022 seniors earning their diploma within four years in White Bear Lake Area Schools.
On Friday, March 17, 2023 Governor Walz signed a bill into law providing free school breakfast and lunch for Minnesota students beginning next school year. Specific details on the implementation of this new law are not yet available. The District will communicate the details to our families once we have clear direction from the State of Minnesota. In the meantime, see some key points that might be helpful to those who have questions.
