The WBLAHS Spring Play, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is being performed May 24-26. Due to ongoing construction at WBLAHS, the performances will take place at Irondale Senior High School Auditorium (2425 Long Lake Rd., New Brighton, MN).

Michele Norcross 2024 White Bear Lake Area Educators Teacher of the Year slide

White Bear Lake Area Learning Center Teacher Michele Norcross was named the 2024 White Bear Lake Area Educators Teacher of the Year at a celebration and recognition event. The Language Arts teacher was chosen from an impressive slate of 6 finalists from throughout the district.

Those who are interested in touring the renovated White Bear Lake Area High School are invited to mark their calendars for a Community Open House event from 3-6 p.m. on Aug. 29. Additional information will be shared as the event approaches.

At the April 22 School Board Work Session, a video debuted that highlights students and staff members sharing their thoughts about the impact flexible furniture and common spaces have made on teaching and learning in White Bear Lake Area Schools. These facilities improvements were supported by the passage of the 2019 Bond Referendum.

The White Bear Lake Area School District is pleased to announce that Jenni Sjosten has been hired to serve in the role of High School Associate Principal - ALC at the district’s Area Learning Center. Sjosten will step into the role this summer upon the retirement of Gretchen Harriman, who has led the ALC for the past 12 years.

Spring Fling

The district’s youngest Bears and their families in Normandy Park’s Early Childhood Family Education classes (ECFE), welcomed in the warmer weather earlier this month. Their exciting activities were captured in a recent video issue of the district's "The Week in 62.4 Seconds"

The district’s most recent four-year graduation rate, released today by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), shows White Bear Lake Area Schools topping the state’s graduation rate by 5.7 percentage points, with 89.0% of 2023 seniors earning their diploma within four years.

The 2023 graduation rate at White Bear Lake Area High School - South Campus, which does not include students from the district’s Area Learning Center (ALC) or Transition Education Center (TEC) programs, is 94%. The Area Learning Center’s graduation rate of 73% is the highest ALC rate in the area. This most recent ALC rate is an increase of 9 percentage points over 2022 and 22 percentage points since 2021.

If winter weather is so severe that schools need to close, families will be alerted via phone, email and text to those who have opted in to receiving texts from the district. (Instructions for opt-in here.) The message will be posted on the district's website and social media accounts, and the information will also be available on local media outlets.

Preschoolers in the Early Childhood program at Tamarack Nature Center read a book this week called “Sap to Syrup”. The book helped students understand their hands-on activity, which was highlighted in a recent video issue of the district's The Week in 62.4 Seconds.

Jim Galvin, long-time coach, teacher, and community member, has been honored by White Bear Lake Area Schools for his decades of service to the school community. The White Bear Lake Area School Board voted at its March 4, 2024 meeting to name the fully renovated White Bear Lake Area High School gymnasium “Galvin Court.”

There has been a change to the last week of school schedule for students at the middle school and high school levels. The schedule has been modified due to construction schedules and building moves.

Messin' & Movin'

Early Childhood families were able to enjoy hands-on interaction and exploration with a wide variety of sensory materials at their Messin’ & Movin’ event held at Normandy Park.

The White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation hosted a fundraising breakfast in the White Bear Lake Area High School Union area. After enjoying a breakfast together and hearing district staff members describe ways the Foundation’s support has impacted various district programs and classrooms, attendees enjoyed tours of the completed portions of the building.
